As things begin to warm up, the North American Black Bear emerges from their winter den in search of food. While they are a beautiful – and often described as “cute” – mammal, they are an unmistaken top predator in our ecosystem. So, as the summer gets closer, how do we prepare ourselves in the event of an on-trail encounter? Join a park ranger to learn about the black bear and their traits, as well as discuss common myths that we often hear when encountering them in the wild. Demonstrations will also be shown on what to do if a bear sighting gets a little too close for comfort.
Registration is required. Participants are encouraged to meet at the Farmstead Museum 15 minutes before the program begins. If you have any questions, please call the park at (423) 229-9447.
