November 18th, Centennial Park (245 E. Main Street | Downtown Kingsport) will come alive with the magic of the holiday season from 1-4pm. Presented by Appalachian Power, CSX and the Kingsport Chamber, Santa’s Depot is a NEW event developed to enhance the experience of the Santa’s Train Arrival in Kingsport, TN.
Children will receive an official “Santa’s Depot” activity passport when they arrive at the event. Sponsored booths include activities such as cookie decorating, marshmallow fun with Professor Photon, magical wishes paper garland (to be displayed in the Kingsport Chamber lobby), coloring activities and more.
Inflatables, a kid’s-size train ride, and holiday airbrush tattoos will be onsite and complimentary to children. Attendees will also have the opportunity to experience the magic of LIVE reindeer and sit in Santa’s sleigh, both sponsored by the High Road Agency.
Santa’s Depot serves as the official site to create and drop-off location for “letters to Santa.” Children are invited to write their letters onsite, place them in a large red mailbox which will be retrieved by Santa per his arrival on the 75th annual Santa Train.
Celebrating artist, Val Lyle’s newly unveiled “Spirit of Generosity” sculpture featuring Santa himself, event organizers encourage attendees to practice giving to others. Attendees will find a large barrel close to the sculpture and are asked to bring cold weather items for neighbors in need.
Located behind the CSX Depot on Main Street, train enthusiasts and Santa Train sentimentalists can view the recently restored Clinchfield 100 train car. Tours will not be provided due to safety regulations but onlookers can get a great peak at this historical relic.
At approximately, 3pm the Santa Train will make its final stop in Kingsport, TN. Santa and celebrity rider, Ricky Skaggs will disembark the train and head to the Santa’s Depot Stage (brought to you compliments of College Nannies + Sitter + Tutors | TriCites) for a special performance.
All activities are free to children. Organizers stated that they cannot guarantee that each child will get to participate in each activity but can ensure a magical day! Santa and his elves encourage attendees to share their pictures on social media using #SantasDepotKPT.
Santa reminds all attendees how to stay on his “nice list”:
- Only one activity passport will be granted per child
- Activity passports will only be given to children who are present
- Activities and treats are for CHILDREN only
- Be KIND
