Under direct supervision performs responsible pool duties ensuring the safety of patrons in the pool and pool deck area, provides swimming instruction, and performs general maintenance tasks. Work schedule will include nights, weekends and on call for special events and/or emergencies.

Examples of Work: (Illustrative Only)
Mans a lifeguard station during specified times in order to maintain the safety of all persons at the pool site.
Works as a walking guard to patrol the pool area.
Teaches swimming lessons of various levels and to a variety of age groups.
Assists in the supervision of special activities and pool parties.
Tests water for chemical balance and vacuums pool.
Cleans restrooms, pool decks and grounds.
Assists the cashier in ticket sales for admission.
Distributes basket numbers and supervises the basket room
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of general Parks and Recreation operating policies and procedures; Knowledge of modern first aid and water safety techniques.; Ability to assist in the planning, organizing, and coordination of pool activities and events; Ability to follow directions; Skill in performing a variety clerical functions; Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with department staff and the general public; Skill in performing basic facility maintenance;
Acceptable Experience and Training:
Must be a minimum age of 16 and have a current Red Cross Certification in lifesaving. WSI (Water Safety Instructor) certification is preferred.
Task involves frequent walking, standing; some lifting and carrying objects of moderate weight (12-20 lbs.); and occasional heavy weight (100 lbs plus); and/or the operation of hand tools in which manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination are important ingredients of safe and/or productive operations.
Task will require occasional exposure to adverse environmental conditions (heat, rain, cold).
