KFD Issues a Burn Ban
Outdoor Fire Burn Ban Issued for Kingsport, TN
Robert Sluss, Fire Marshal for the City of Kingsport, has issued a city wide burn ban. Due to dry conditions and lack of rainfall, all outdoor fires (e.g.; recreational fires, camp fires, bon fires, and burning brush) are prohibited and subject to fine. The burn ban will remain in effect until further notice.
Cooking with propane and charcoal grills are allowed.
The ban on fires could be reduced if moisture conditions are favorable. The Kingsport Fire Department responds to a number of outdoor burn incidents and complaints.
There are alternatives to outdoor burning. The City of Kingsport provides leaf collection for our residents from October 14th through January 15th. The city is divided into six different zones, with a crew in each area. Depending on the volume of leaves out for collection, pick up may be anywhere from six to fifteen working days to cover all routes. Leaves should be raked to the edge of the roadway but not in the road, to facilitate pick-up. Please keep leaf piles clean, no trash or limbs. Bagged leaves will be picked up on the regular yard trash collection day. Check for information at https://www.kingsporttn.gov/…/public-…/sanitation/leaf-line/ for a list of daily routes or call the Leaf Line at (423) 224-2429. The leaf line will be updated daily after Oct 14th, stating what areas the crews will be working in that day, as well as where they anticipate being the following day.
