KINGSPORT – With the Fourth of July approaching the Kingsport Fire Department reminds citizens about the fire and safety hazards of consumer fireworks.
Also, fireworks are illegal in the City of Kingsport. City ordinance prohibits the manufacture, use, discharge, possession or sale of fireworks within the city limits. Any person found guilty of violating this ordinance shall be fined up to $110 for each offense.
Did you know that two out of five fires reported on the Fourth of July are started by fireworks, more than for any other cause? The good news is you can enjoy your holiday and the fireworks, with just a few simple safety tips:
Proceed with caution!
- Leave fireworks to the professionals. Do not use consumer fireworks.
- The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public display conducted by trained professionals.
- After the firework display, children should never pick up fireworks that may be left over, they may still be active.
- Fireworks can cause severe injuries, sparklers burn at around 1200 degrees.
Statistics:
In 2012, U.S. hospital emergency rooms saw an estimated 8,700 people for fireworks related injuries. The detailed statistics below are based only on injuries seen from June 22- July 22, 2012.
- Almost three out of five (57%) of the 2012 fireworks injuries were burns, while almost one-fifth (18%) were contusions or lacerations.
- Three out of ten (30%) people injured by fireworks were under the age of 15.
- Males accounted for three-quarters (74%) of the injuries.
- The risk of fireworks injury was highest for young people ages 15-24 followed by children under 10.
- Sparklers, fountains and novelties alone accounted for one-quarter (25%) of the emergency room fireworks injuries in 2012.

KINGSPORT ‚¬ Construction began on Monday June 15, 2015 to install a new sanitary sewer line on Kendrick Creek Road between Julip Drive and Oakmont Drive.
Work is taking place between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, which results in a section of Kendrick Creek Road (between Julip Drive and Oakmont Drive) to be closed to thru traffic.‚ Work is scheduled to be completed on Wednesday July 1, 2015.‚ A detour route will be posted, but motorists should plan ahead and seek alternative routes when possible.

| SUBJECT: | Suspect Arrested in K-Mart Pharmacy Robbery Investigation | ||

| GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
| On June 20, 2015 at approximately 3:00 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to a report of an intoxicated man at Olive Garden, located at 1919 North Eastman Road in Kingsport. Upon their arrival at the restaurant, officers located the suspect in question, identified as Tyler J. Holly. A check for warrants on Mr. Holly revealed two outstanding Sullivan County warrants for Possession of Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia and Violation of Probation.
During a search of his person, the arresting officers located prescription narcotics consistent with those stolen in the robbery of the K-Mart Pharmacy the previous evening. The officers further noticed that Mr. Holly’s clothing and physical appearance matched that of the robbery suspect. After further investigation, Mr. Holly was charged with Aggravated Robbery and transported to the Kingsport City Jail. He has since been transferred to the Sullivan County Jail where he remains confined on both the Aggravated Robbery and the other pre-existing charges in lieu of a $25,000 bond as set by the presiding judge. As previously released: On June 19, 2015 at approximately 7:00 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to K-Mart, located at 1805 East Stone Drive in Kingsport, in reference to an armed robbery of the store’s pharmacy. The initial investigation revealed that an unknown suspect threatened pharmacy personnel with what was believed to be a handgun and demanded specific prescription medications. The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed type and quantity of prescription medications. K.P.D. Detectives were called to the scene to investigate. A review of surveillance video revealed a white male suspect, possibly in his twenties, with dark hair and facial stubble, wearing a red ball cap backwards, a long sleeved white t-shirt, a black vest, baggy dark colored jeans, and dark colored shoes. Photos of the suspect taken from surveillance video footage have been included in this release. A clip of the actual surveillance video has been made available for viewing on the K.P.D.
