General Narrative |
A burglary was attempted at Diamond Exchange and multiple incendiary devices were utilized to create a smoke screen.
On July 27, 2013 at approximately 3:15 AM, what appeared to be a black Ford Mustang entered the parking lot of Diamond Exchange, located at 1901 Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport. The driver rolled down the window, ignited multiple homemade smoke generating incendiary devices, and scattered them across the parking lot in an apparent attempt to create a smoke screen to visibly mask his or her crime. All but one of these devices failed; however, the one device that worked, released a very large smoke cloud. A broken window was located on the building where an unsuccessful attempt to burglarize the business had been made. Photos of the smoke cloud and the suspect vehicle retrieved from surveillance video footage are included in this release. This business is located at the busy intersection of Fort Henry Drive and Sherwood Road. Even though this incident occurred at 3:15 AM, it is likely that there were witnesses in the area who would have noticed the large smoke cloud. Anyone who may have additional information regarding this incident or a possible suspect is asked to contact the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111. For additional information, please contact: Ptl. Thomas M. Patton K.P.D.
